Monster character made for a cancelled indie augmented reality hybrid game Netherlost. A slimy and apathetic servant of Mistress of Sorrows (empress of one of game’s imaginary worlds). Based on a concept art by Marcin Kolwas.

Nuts And Bolts

Personal project

The goal of the project was to establish a pipe between the first version of 3D Coat featuring PBR texture painting, and Houdini’s Mantra pathtracer. At that time Houdini didn’t have Disney Principled shader yet.

Screwdriver, CPU cooler, coffee can and all types of nuts and bolts were modeled in NVil and hand-painted in 3D Coat. Instruction manual visible on one of the renders is a scanned page from Noctua NH-D14 manual applied on an FFD’d grid. All models were made with render-time subdivision in mind.

For scattering nuts and bolts throughout the scene and into the can I used a funnel collider through which I poured Bullet RBDs from a wide box emitter. It worked pretty well, but position of several objects outside of the can still required a little bit of tweaking, so I ended up baking the simulation result into geometry and manually adjusting their transforms.

Substance material

A substance material stylized to look like one of the common Polish sewer manholes. Customization allows for changing top and bottom text, dirt level and surface wear.

Green Manalishi Band Poster

Piwnica pod Harendą (2015)

An A3 poster designed for Green Manalishi Band’s gig in Harenda club (Warsaw, Poland). Due to tight time constraints 3D-Coat’s new Autopo routines were used, instead of manual retopologization of the stone letters and the band’s mascot. The algorithm performed surprisingly well as the result required only few manual topology tweaks. All major objects use displacement mapping.

We're Looking for Crites

1st place award in 3D-Coat Community Challenge
Hairy creature without fur system and instancing

A Crite based on voracious creatures featured in the “Critters” films. One of my favorite horror flick series of all time.

The asset was made for the 3D-Coat Community Challenge #11. The goal of the challenge was to design a furry creature without taking advantage of fur systems, instancing or any other means of automating the hair creation process, so Critter’s fur consists of 283 duplicates of five unique hand-painted texture sheets, manually distributed over the creature’s body.

Hans Kloss

Contribution to 3D-Coat Community Challenge
"Sculpt and texture your hero/heroine"

Stanisław Kolicki is a fictional Polish secret agent portrayed by renowned actor Stanisław Mikulski in “Stawka większa niż życie” teleplays (14 episodes in 1965) and TV-series (18 episodes in 1967-68).

After the outbreak of World War 2 and the invasion of Poland, Kolicki escapes to Soviet Union from a German prison camp in Kościerzyna. He is soon arrested by Russian border guards and brought to military intelligence officers for questioning. They quickly realize that Kolicki bears incredible visual resemblance to a captured Abwehr officer named Hans Kloss. They decide to take advantage of this fact.

Kolicki is given Kloss’s identity and as agent codenamed J-23 is sent to occupied Poland, where he acts under the cover of an Abwehr lieutenant.

This is still an unfinished sculpture, to which I intend to return if time permits.

Ribbed Helmet

SubDiv model

A ribbed helmet from Late Antiquity or Middle Ages period. Some sources indicate that it was used by the Vendels. Modeled and textured after master armorer’s Mardinus excellent craftsmanship. The helmet was made before Disney’s Principled Shader was implemented in Houdini and uses Principled shader coded by Jim Price.

Noctua NH-D14

SubDiv model

The cooler created for Nuts and Bolts scene. It was meant to resemble Noctua NH-D14 that I have sitting in my workstation. It was modeled in Nvil, except for fans and tubular shapes which I created in Houdini because I needed to be able to easily and non-destructively modify shapes of those parts.
